From our Kilburn Head Office and depot in Lonsdale we employ more than 140 dedicated staff across South Australia.

Our story

1976

As a one-man operator, our founder, Leon Whitehead started running his own lawn mowing and weed control business, ‘Leon’s Lawn Service’.

Early 80's

Leon was receiving much interest from local councils for his services and he started to employ team members to work alongside him

1988

Leon formed SA Weed Control with 10 full-time staff. The expansion encompassed weed control management for local government.

1996

SA Parks & Gardens was formed to expand the services of the company beyond weed control. Working with local, state government and private industry, the company provided a unique urban landscape service.

1998

Leon purchased small vehicles and worked with a mechanic to engineer an innovative dual-control option for these vehicles. This allowed access onto footpaths, verges and difficult to access areas.

2002

The business moved to a site office in Beverley and expanded to 25 full-time staff.

2004

‘UrbanVirons Group’ was incorporated to include all divisions, as the company expanded further. The “name behind the scenery” became our slogan. It was intended to incorporate the environment and the scenery that we look after.

2005

Due to continued success and expansion, we set up a depot in Lonsdale to service our clients south of the city, employing a local workforce of 10 employees

2009

UrbanVirons Group continued to expand, moving to a new head office in Regency Park. The facility housed 50 FTE’s including northern field crews, management and administrative staff.

2013-2016

UrbanVirons Group’s head office relocated to Kilburn. Another period of significant growth across all divisions, including the development and expansion of a fully resourced and professional Arboricultural Division, necessitated the expansion of the facility to include 3 undercover sheds and a full suite of offices. During this time we also set up a depot in Mount Barker to service customers in the Hills and surrounds. Our field teams across all divisions continued to expand and by the end of 2016, we had a staff compliment of 80.
