The children of the Clarence Park Community Centre now have a new playground and garden space to enjoy thanks to a project recently completed by Urbans’ Landscape Construction team.
Project works for the City of Unley facility included:
- Demolition and dumping of existing site materials
- Salvage of existing materials as per plan for relocation
- New sandpit play area
- Fill to create mounding and climbing areas
- Pathways and rock edging
- Timber play wall and concrete tunnel
- Mulching and planting beds
- Supply and place all plants
Playground features
The central additional feature of the new playground and garden space was a mound made of natural materials. The mound featured a hardwood timber retaining wall which was designed and engineered by the landscaping team. This has been a big hit with the children.
The wall provided climbing holds for children and incorporated a concrete tunnel.
Rocks and boulders were also installed in the mound for natural steps and seating. As well as adding aesthetic value to the play area this has provided a challenge for the children.
Irrigation, mulching and plantings were also part of the playground and garden project.
Due to its location in a childcare facility, a critical part of the new playground and garden space was to ensure all logs used were debarked and sanded. This ensured a finish that removed all sharp or protruding edges.
Cement stabilised sand paving with brick edging and a turfed area rounded out the landscape construction project.
Five Urbans staff were utilised on the project, including concreting and irrigation specialists. It was completed whilst the childcare centre was operational.
The children keenly watched the construction process, which was undertaken with all safety measures in place. They are now happily and imaginatively playing in the new playground and garden space.
